"In Colorado, we have made it one of our top priorities to decrease property taxes for all Coloradans," said Governor Polis.

In May 2024, the State of Colorado introduced a property tax bill (SB23-303) to provide relief to homeowners and business owners. As a result, Coloradans needed a way to better understand and navigate the complexities of property taxation. Enter a powerful tool that offers a new level of government transparency and accessibility around property tax information: the Colorado Property Tax Map.

Working Together for Colorado

The development of this innovative map was a collaborative effort between the Governor’s Office, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Geographic Information System (GIS) team and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). This first-of-its-kind interactive map was designed to provide Coloradans with a centralized, accessible and reliable source to estimate their property taxes and gain clarity on statewide taxing jurisdictions and boundaries. Making it Easier for Coloradans

Previously, accessing property tax information required taxpayers to navigate individual county assessor websites, each with varying search functionality. For instance, some offered map-based searches, while others offered only address-based searches. This decentralized approach caused considerable confusion, particularly for new homeowners and residents who move to a different county. Coloradans needed a user-friendly, centralized platform to access their tax data, along with readily available resources and helpful tools.

About the Property Tax Map

The Property Tax Map tool aggregates data from local governments and displays historical tax information, parcel details, and tax rates in a way never before achieved. While the map provides a valuable resource for previous years’ property tax information, it will continue to be updated annually. This comprehensive approach aims to add much-needed context and clarity to what is often a confusing subject for property owners, such as defining confusing tax jargon. The map also features a built-in calculator that lets users quickly estimate their property taxes. It is mobile-friendly, offers multiple data access formats, and includes a Spanish version.
