The Heart of Women@OIT
Creating Community in Tech
In our fast-paced, largely remote world, the Women@OIT Employee Resource Group (ERG) is an invaluable community for authentic connection, personal growth and empowerment for women in different roles and backgrounds across OIT.
For those curious about the atmosphere, the consensus among members is that psychological safety is something you can feel the moment you join the call or room. This group serves as a bridge, connecting women across departments who might otherwise remain strangers in our remote work environment.
“The vibe and energy that the Women@OIT ERG is defined by is its welcoming atmosphere. You sense a feeling of openness with the members. It brings together women with various roles, ages and backgrounds within the OIT. I believe the leadership team does a fantastic job of making sure everyone feels seen, heard and invited to the table. When you share your thoughts or life experience, the group is very receptive and accepting.” ~Kim Rodriguez, Vendor Relationship Analyst, Chief Finance Office
April Conlin, Quality Assurance Tester, describes it as a necessary sanctuary. "It is the one meeting on my calendar that truly provides a 'recharge,'" she says. "In a digital world that can sometimes feel 'sharp,' finding a community that lifts each other up is a rare gem."
Women@OIT’s strength lies in its diversity — bringing together women from across various offices to discuss topics that transcend technology. The conversations often focus on the human element — navigating workplace dynamics, achieving work-life integration and fostering personal growth.
"I’m here for the perspectives that challenge me. At Women@OIT, I’ve learned that empowerment isn't a solo journey — it’s a chain reaction. As I witness these women find their strength, I find my own," said another Women@OIT Member.
The motivations for joining Women@OIT are as diverse as the members themselves:
- Connection: "I joined for the sense of community and fun. This group has done some amazing events where we can all get together and enjoy each other’s company! It’s the best way to stay connected."
- Personal Growth: "Connection to other women to understand more about other women's perspectives and to learn more about myself as a woman and a woman in tech."
- Advocacy: "I joined to establish connection and camaraderie and to foster empowerment and support for other women in this organization. I enjoy talking to people who are like-minded, as well as those with different experiences from mine."
The group's greatest achievement, perhaps, is bridging the gap between seasoned leadership and newcomers. By focusing on shared experiences, Women@OIT facilitates natural mentorship. The women share experiences and discuss topics such as navigating career stories (often with a few laughs), promoting leadership, fostering mentorship and achieving work-life balance.
